AMPD was born out of pure travel frustration.

On a trip to Canada, our founder landed, went to plug in his phone and realised he'd brought the wrong wall adapter. First stop on holiday? A shop to buy another one. On top of that, his bag was a tangled mess of cables and chargers, and with long days out exploring away from the accommodation, his phone kept running flat. He didn't want to lug around a heavy, bulky power bank just to stay charged, but every option out there was exactly that.

That trip made one thing clear: travelling with your devices was far more complicated than it needed to be. So in 2019, AMPD was started with one mission: make travelling with your tech easier and simpler.

From small beginnings to the Roam Pod

For our first few years, we were a small team quietly building, testing and learning what travellers really needed. In 2024 everything came together with the launch of the AMPD Roam Pod, our 5 in 1 travel charger. It combines a power bank, wireless charger, wall plug, built in cables and adapters for over 150 countries in one compact device that's light enough to carry all day and small enough to fit in your pocket. It's the charger we wish we'd had in Canada.

Since then, more than 10,000 travellers have made the Roam Pod part of their kit.

We're a New Zealand owned travel tech brand, with local hubs in Howick, Auckland and Carlton, Melbourne. We keep Roam Pods stocked on both sides of the Tasman so we can get orders out quickly. When our local stock is running low, your order is sent from a fulfilment partner closer to you, so it still gets to you fast.

Where we're heading

Our goal is to become the go to travel gadget brand across New Zealand and Australia. Next up, we're working on even smaller portable chargers for when you want to travel as light as possible, along with our own range of charging cables built to last, not the cheap ones that give out after a few months.
